On Friday, December 12, 2025 I and my Capstone group commenced our second field day surveying for northern tidewater gobies (Eucyclogobius newberryi) presence, occupancy, and various other habitat and biological metrics. We surveyed four sites, all within the LA/Ventura recovery unit. While we did not find any tidewater gobies today, we did encounter a number of California native species such as juvenile arrow gobies (Clevelandia ios), juvenile starry flounders (Platichthys stellatus), and California killifish (Fundulus parvipinnis) (Pictured below). We also unfortunately found a number of invasive species such as the Mississippi silverside (Menidia audens), Mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis), and the shrimp (Palaemon macrodactylus). While it was unfortunate to not get data on northern tidewater gobies, even absence data is important information.
